Soraya Janson is killing it!

With our British hairdressing awards photoshoot under wraps we have some time to make appreciation for one of our models from last years shoot. You may have seen her face online or in a shop window as she blew up last season in some amazing campaigns.

Soraya Janson was featured in our winning collection for Eastern hairdresser of the year awards  'The Valley Girls' as our short haired Grace Jones, pulling shapes and being incredibly poise whilst doing so!

After our collection was published we started seeing her face pop up in other collections and her androgynous striking beauty was still shining on. Spotting her in campaigns for the new Toni and Guy collection was the first place we saw her pop up whilst walking down the street in central London. Her brows were sharp (We love a dark brow and her hair was ashy and a moment of pride came over us as one of our girls was flourishing!

At The Egg we love staying cultured and a good read for us is often featured on Dazed Digital where we've spotted her face pop up a few times with designer Martajaku Bowski new collection featured here:

It seems shes breaking gender norms working on a collection that isn't limited by Gender or Sex which works perfectly with clean and androgynous image.

We love catching some of our models in Press as it keeps us inspired!
Could you rock a short crop like Soraya!?

Colour Consultation are key!

Hair colour is important, so very important as it can enhance your complexion, brighten your eye colour and compliment every feature. Paul Standen-May is a strong believer of this ethos and applies this theory to every single client he has. When Anna came into the salon her hair was a light blonde and long but was open to change. Paul worked his wonders to give her hair a soft change that enhanced her features and made her glow! Toning it down with a soft root definition and a more complimentary  tone.

'The power of a good colour analysis entitles your client to have their own bespoke colour which works perfectly to suit them and makes her feel empowered!'

Ever wondered what Paul Standen-May can do for your colour? Come see him for a consultation.. To book call 01603 761176

Indigo Meets The Egg!

When two creative fields collide great fun and great things happen. We had the lovely girls from Indigo Tattoo and piercing in our Lowergoat Lane salon last week to get their hair transformed and sassed.  The Standen-May boys got to sit down with the girls and transform their hair to how they wanted!

When Hollie came in her fringe was growing out and she wanted to get it shaped up, We didn't get to grab a before photo as Callum was overly excited to get his scissors on Hollies Fringe. Following on that it was time to loose some length to make her hair perfectly healthy! With her colour It was Pauls time to shine and accent Hollies black locks with a Mallen Streak! It was achieved using a very tight foiling technique to achieve maximum lightness on pre-coloured hair!

Red wasn't dead for Becky but it needed to be played with as she was losing length today! Paul started with colour and the first point of call was richening up her reds! Choosing a deeper, warmer base colour for Becky's hair was a treat for Paul upping her old faded brunette to a more expensive mahogany was the highlight of this transformation. Following this he accented her future framing around her face with brighter vibrant ruby tones giving her look detail and edge. Callum then took over with a cut that was blunt and classic.. Leaving the detail in the colour he cut off the un-needed length and shaped Beckys hair around the face giving her a timeless chic haircut.

Gema was the last one in after a long day of tattooing and being the business mogul that she is! Her hair was summer effected with her ombré of rainbow colours ready for a winter make-over! Gema isn't shy about coming and getting her hair done with Paul so they quickly settle on a back to a rich natural for winter! With new ventures in the future it was best to tone it down for a refreshingly rich, natural palette with lots of added shine. After her colour was finished, it was time for a sharpen up on her cut.. Callum took the reigns and chopped of all the ends that were ready to say goodbye completing this back to natural transformation. Classic, Classy and clean!

We loved having the girls in salon as they're amazing characters with some of Norwich's hottest tattoos! To check them out head over to their Facebook page to see their work here!

Big transformations for the Indigo Piercing and Tattoo girls. Check these sassy girls out big blog posts coming on all the girls transformations next week.

Warm it up because It's getting cold!

Warm and rich tones are in, it's just like florals at spring, it's no surprise and we are starting to see people ditch the blonde for a brunette as this seasons must-have! One of those clients was Takisha's client yesterday, she fancied a change and decided that turning to the dark side was the best choice. When Lilly came in she had a golden blonde base with regrowth coming through so her colour needed a pre-pig before just applying the colour. After the hair was prepped Takisha chose a brunette tone that would suit her client and also compliment her eye colour and skin tone. Settling on a beautiful Roasted Peacan brunette het hair was transformed!

Takisha works at our Lowergoat Lane salon, to book in with her and get your colour switched up give us a call on 01603 761176

Shaping up for the cold weather.

Sometimes it takes a change in weather to realise you want a change in hair too!

Pippa was exactly that client when she came to see Callum Standen-May on Saturday for her hair cut. When she arrived in salon her hair was just below collar bones and not really one style or another, after her consultation with Callum her new length and fringe were decided and there was no going back! After her hour appointment her hair was transformed and her new complimentary length and fringe were here to stay!

Callum is the salon directors in the Loweroat Lane salon, to book in with him give us a call on 01603 761176!

Ying and Yang!

With the new season in full swing the decision is here to be made. Going dark is such a popular choice when the colder months roll in but blonde is definitely a great way to go too! Here is some clients from the last week in our Lowergoat lane salon.

On the left we have the beautiful Ailsa who came in for highlights as she was getting a bit root. After a late afternoon session with Paul Standen-May her hair was freshened the pair opted a loose wave to compliment her new cool tone.

On the right we have a much warmer alternative! Jen came in with Tessa to get her colour retouched for her new job yesterday and needed something to richen up her look. With her style she also loved a bit of a wave to add volume!

Both Paul & Tessa work in our Lowergoat Lane salon. To book in give us a call on 01603 761176

Shab to Shaggy!

Short hair is the focus of this weekend with some amazing make-overs happening in salon. Yesterdays Tessa client came in for a freshen up as her hair was getting a bit over grown. When Sam came into salon her hair wasn't looking bad in the slightest but she wanted a nice change. Stylist Tessa transformed her with a fresh set of highlights with a nice creamy tone and shaped up her crop.
Subtle changes can make all the difference a great way to switch up your look is to do it gradually!

Don't chase the sun.

The sun is setting earlier now, and you can't get those natural holiday highlight by hanging out at the beach anymore.. But don't let that stop you! This week in Salon we've seen a lot of sunlit highlights and natural lightening techniques shine through as a big request.

Katie (left) Had her hair done with Chloe today and wanted sunlit highlights with a contrast darker tone. Using a free-hand Balayage technique Chloe lifted and contrasted multiple tones to give Katie the definition she wanted with a beautiful organic palette.

Also Beth (right) was in the salon last week with technician Naomi to get her root stretch brought higher. We all know that a bit of root definition is hot right now and lifting a your grown out blonde a few inches higher is great way to maintain your style. Both colours worked with natural tones of cools, brunettes and golds to give a more kissed finish.

Natural highlights don't need to come from a holiday and you can definitely fake it with a great technician at hand. To book in with Chloe or Naomi give our Lowergoat Lane salon a call on 01603 761176.

Change is in the air!

Now we have not been shy about posting all the colour changes as Autumn rolls in..
Today in salon Paul was welcomed back from his time in Ibiza last week with a big colour change. When Gemma came into salon her hair was overdue for a new colour and she wanted to be daring and take a plunge of vibrancy. A great way to perk yourself and make your self feel sassier is definitely to go bold!

Salons combined!

So today we've been seeing different styled by both salons.
We ventured down to our lovely Magdalen street salon and snapped a beautiful shot of Louises client Tracy, she had her hair coloured today to a autumnal auburn with the seasonal change happening right now we are finding it a perfected transitional shade.

On the flipside in our Lowergoat lane salon, we saw a juxtaposition to the Louise as Amber worked with natural curl on shorter hair. Her client Daisy wanted something easy to handle that had a cool edge, a side part it was as it works great on short styles and is an awesome way to add definition and interest too!

Switching it up!

What's your hair tipple, is it vivid and bold or soft and natural.

Recently Chelsea has been adventuring around with her look to find her autumn winter colour palette. Initially she wanted pink hair and rocked it for a week or two, after a while she decided it was fun for the weekend but not for her permanently. Luckily MCE (master colour expert) Amber Duffy was there to get her back to blonde but with a beautiful creamy blonde twist and a sunken root definition.

The best bit about exploring with your colour are the possibilities are endless and discovering what suits you the best is the funnest part of seasonal / personal change. Are you switching up your image for autumn?

Amber is also looking to build her freelance portfolio up working on shoots and events as she loves to be involved in creative projects.

(Amber works in our Lowergoat Lane salon Monday - Friday so to book a consultation with her contact us on 01603 761176)

Chopping it off for charity.

We've had an amazing transformation in salon today by Paul Standen-May! His client Melanie booked in last week to have all of her hair cut off for charity which we absolutely love! She decided to donate her hair that she has been growing for 10 year to the Little Princess Trust which is a charity dedicated to making wigs for children  who have been through cancer treatment. Not only is this such a beautiful thing to do we also think Melanie looks absolutely beautiful with her new hair style.

(Check out The Little Princess Trust website to see how you can help here!)

Embracing the Organic

We've been focusing a lot on colour and the introduction of the amazing Olaplex in salon this week but we've also had some beautiful clients in the salon who haven't coloured their hair at all!

A lot  of girls have hair goals; Thick, glossy, long, beautiful hair! And we love making and creating these goals happen for our clients! On the left Paul's client had a haircut and rocked a curled glossy finish and on the right Ambers hair rocked a more matte tousled style with a split fringe. Both looks look awesome with their natural hair colour shining through so we pose the question.. is it time to go back to natural tones for fall?

(If you've coloured your hair and want a colour correction to go back to natural we can do that too.)

Oh-ma-plex!

So we've had a big transformation in salon today and you guessed it. It was using Olaplex!

Paul Standen-May has been working in Barcelona all week but returned to a big colour change waiting for his return. When Katie came into salon she had coloured hair at the base of a 7. Paul lifted her to a platinum blonde and toned to a creamy milky beige. Olaplex worked amazingly on not compromising Katie hair in the slightest and she's back to the blonde she wanted to be!

(Paul uses Olaplex in our Lowergoat Lane salon, for more information and to book a consultation ring us on 01603 761176)

Out with the old - PrePig for the new.

When you just need to strip it back to natural

When Tessa's client came into the salon today her previous style had grown out and and she wanted change. After stressing that she wanted to go back to natural with her hair the plan was set in motion to get her there. After deciding she was going to use ColourTouch by Wella professional to add more shine to her client, Tessa Pre-pigged the hair to make sure there would be no khaki tones present and got her back to her beautiful glossy natural colour.

Friday, 6 June 2014

So to start of this blog we must catch you up on a few things we've been doing in salon! The year is 2014 and it's been an extremely exciting year for everyone involved with The Egg. We have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time and are continuing to grow bigger and bigger.

To get you up to date of where we currently are we will introduce you to Creative Director of the Salon - Callum Standen (pictured above).  He is one of the Founders of The Egg and works creatively releasing seasonal collections for the salon..

Our launch Collection 'The Asylum' which was in association with The Fellowship of British hairdressing. Pictured above it was a shock value collection we conjured up under Callums wing to capture the attention of our audiences and to display good hair at the same time.

The Collection was based on Pre-Nineteen Hundreds mental asylums and the disturbia caused to the patients & visiters. Inspired by the abandoned asylums that are still erected today, we looked at 'Beauty in Decay' which incorporated strong outlines with texture inside . Other inspirations which lead the collection to a much more modern level were movies such as 'Girl Interrupted' where Angelina Jolie plays a character named 'Lisa Rowe' who according to Wikipedia is 'A diagnosed sociopath who easily manipulates the woman around her'.  Working with Choreographer Steven Knights we aimed to inprison that with the models on stage.

Using a mixture of 'Tigi Hard Head' hair spray and 'Sassoon shine spray' the team created beautiful movement in hair that was teamed with very strong look using Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in White & big dark swollen lips created with Illamasqua Lipstick in Kontrol the collection was complete.

Music featured on the stage of Professional Hair Live in Manchester was Crookers - That Laughing Track to grab the attention of passerby and the audience at The Fellowship Newcomers show in January & Professional Hair Pro Live in March and their is where the collection was born! This S/S 14 collection wanted to show a dark and periodic collection incorporating white alternative fashion which we found refreshing from floral and we hope you enjoyed it if you haven't seen it before..

So there is a little peek into what we were doing earlier on in the year and our first blog post for you to read, We have many exciting events coming up in the near future and we can't wait for you to read about it. Don't forget to Subscribe VIA email on our side box to keep up to date with us.
